WMC changes the date?? Really?
So it's official WMC has moved their date up 2 weeks to have WMC 2011 from March 8 - 12, which happens to also be the week before SXSW.Ultra Music Festival with 70,000+ attendees is still holding their date to happen the last week of March, not that we are fans of Ultra, but a lot of people are. Ultra is a little bit like the Wal-Mart for electronic music. It caters to the masses, but does not come with a cheap price. insert: "Welcome to Miami, trick!"
It seems like this might be the fuel SXSW needs to really create a better music conference with a variety of music and maybe even more electronic music acts.
There seems to be quite a backlash to this with party promoters and DJ's, who have all planned their events last week of March. Welcome to EDM politics.
I think Kaskade may have put it best.
But Energetick might be right on the money on this one: Opinion: #WMC screwed the pooch moving the dates. This was all that #SXSW needed to take over the music scene as the premiere conference.
So what do you think about the date change? I for one think Austin might be a little lighter on the wallet then the price gouging that goes on in Miami during WMC. Over priced hotels, drink, and food, no thanks. May have to pass on this year and head down to the Lone Star state.
